MERCADO DE ABASTOS SANTIAGO

On holiday in the beautiful Santiago de Compostela? If you are looking for a really unique place to eat, our advice is to leave fast food, tavernas and so on .. Go instead for Rúa da Senra, walking for a few hundred meters until you arrive at the Plaza de Abastos. Here, you will find the unmissable Mercado de Abastos which offers fresh products from the 1873!

Well, we at Kanoa are really lovers of ... kind. Especially if in "showcase" there are first fruits, local products, genuine goodness, fresh and with an excellent quality / price ratio. And this is the case of the Mercado de Abastos.

This is a large city market within an indoor building. Find everything: there is really a lot of variety. Have fun touching, sniffing, watching; you can choose between meat, fish, cheese, typical products, vegetables and fruit. You can buy local products, and even cook yourself, at the moment, what you have purchased: there you can go to the area to the west of the market. You can sip an aperitif, a glass of white wine accompanied by the inevitable "Tapas" on the trestle chairs. The market, moreover, is very clean. Fair prices, a lot of warmth, friendliness and joyful air.

We have really appreciated this market and its typicality.

There are also events and activities for all tastes, such as, for example, interesting workshops and cooking classes. Experience, culture and gastronomy await you in this splendid architectural context of Santiago de Compostela. Outside the market, however, you will also find many farmers who sell the products of their land.

PRACTICAL INFO

HOW TO GET

The Mercado de Abastos is located in the historic center, just a short distance from the marvelous Cathedral. It is easily reached on foot, in little more than 5 minutes walk from the Catedral, through Praza do Obradoiro.

TIMETABLES

The Mercado de Abastos is open from Monday to Saturday, from 07: 00 to 18: 00. Closed on Sundays and holidays. Admission is free: only pay for what you buy or consume. You will hardly leave without having taken something away!

OUR ADVICE

Ideal to stop for lunch. Do not miss the freshest fish from the Atlantic. Really interesting to be able to cook, with a few euros, what you bought on the stalls. Moreover, many of these are monothematic. Vegetarians can be tossed on the special stalls. Fruits and vegetables come almost exclusively from the surrounding areas.
