Born in the 2003, the Sand Sculpture Festival (FIESA), in the Algarve, has won many acclaim and, today, international renown.
Merit, above all, of the extraordinary works of art, exhibited during the event, in the small Portuguese town of Pêra, not far from Albufeira.
For around 5 months, you can watch the world's largest sand sculpture exhibition. Size, and quality, which earned the town the nickname "Sand City".
In over 15000 square meters, 40 thousand tons of sand are beautifully modeled, according to a specific theme. More than 100, the sculptures to admire, every year.
During the various editions, visitors were able to admire Hollywood characters, lost ancient civilizations, idols, enchanted worlds, wonders of the world ...
The sand sculpture festival in Pêra is an event not to be missed if you are on vacation in the Algarve. A festival that will certainly make the children happy. In a truly magical atmosphere.
Pêra is located a few kilometers away from Albufeira, and about 50 from Faro international airport. The latter represents the ideal starting point, coming from medium / long range destinations.
You can reach the location, comfortably by car, following the signs for Lombos. The site is located between the main roundabout of Lagoa and the Rotunda de Porches (GPS: 11º00´01´43.35)
The program of the Sand Sculpture Festival, from June to October, includes lots of entertainment, from morning to night.
During the day, until evening, in the whole area, you can admire the splendid sculptures. In the evening, instead, there is space for live music, theater, dance and circus arts.
Furthermore, activities and workshops are planned throughout the day. Children and adults will be able to give vent to their creativity by creating their own sand sculptures.
The site is open every day, including Sundays and holidays, from 10: 00 to 22: approximately 00 (timetables awaiting confirmation on the official website fiesa.com).
The ticket to attend the event, costs 9.90 € at standard rate.
There are reductions for Over 65 and kids. In the first case, the ticket costs 7.90 €; boys from 6 to 12 years, however, pay 4.90 €.
Free per child up to 5 years, accompanied by a paying adult.
The site is completely exposed to the sun. The considerable presence of sand, which attracts rays, makes the place quite prohibitive during the hottest hours of the day.
Avoid visiting, therefore, between 12 and 16. Especially in the presence of children.
Preferable times are before and after sunset.
