DATA: December 09 2018
PLACE: Zurich, Switzerland
Christmas you go, a custom that you find.
It could be this that pushed, just under 20 years ago, about sixty daredevers, to dive in December, in the waters of Limmat, in Zurich.
At a distance of 18 years, this strange custom, started almost as a joke, is repeated every year, attracting more and more visitors and participants.
The swim of Samichlaus, or Santa Claus (as they call him here), is not a futile event. Quite the contrary. In fact, part of the proceeds will be donated to the Swiss Multiple Sclerosis Society for charity.
Recommended for all those visiting Zurich for traditional Christmas markets. A different, extravagant and alternative way to spend your time. Event in which we invite you to be protagonists.
For the traditional Samichlaus swim only a good dose of courage is required. And why not, a bit of madness. The water is quite cold these days, but not frozen; the temperatures of the Limmat, in fact, stand between the 6 and the 8 degrees.
And then, it is said that a swim in cold water has beneficial effects.
HOW TO GET
It is absolutely recommended to reach the meeting point with public transport. In the area, you will not find a way to park your car. Moreover, Zurich has a highly efficient and modern public transport network.
Get off at the Bellevue stop with the 2, 5 and 9 trams. From here, in a few minutes, you reach the Pier Restaurant 7.
