An extraordinary event to enjoy ... frozen!
From 15 December 2018, Zwolle opens its doors to visitors for one of the world's most famous events of its kind: The International Ice Sculpture Festival.
Listed as one of the best 5 Winter Festivals in the Netherlands, the International Ice Sculpture Festival takes place at the IJsselhallen in Zwolle. More than 3000 square meters of pure winter fun await you, plus 100 fantastic ice sculptures, and lots, lots of snow and ice!
The works of art, created by 42 international artists, are exhibited in the pavilion, with temperatures around -10 degrees. Not suitable for those who were allergic to the cold.
The route develops on different themes. This year's theme will be: "Stories of world fame". You will explore the fantastic world of the Hobbits of "The Lord of the Rings", and the "Chronicles of Narnia". You will experience the magic of Gulliver's travels, 20000 leagues under the seas, or, Moby Dick. For the little dreamers, there are Winnie The Pooh, Aladdin and even Pippi Longstocking. Thrill-seekers will be able to see Dracula's ice sculptures up close. The most romantic, however, can dream with Romeo and Juliet.
A special Winter Wonderland KinderPlaza It was created for children. A free square with attractions, games and inflatable fairgrounds.
HOW TO GET
Amsterdam it is the starting point to get to Zwolle. The town is just a one-hour train ride from the capital. It can easily be reached with the convenient Intercity from Amsterdam South, or Amsterdam Centraal. After the visit to the Festival, a train will take you to the center of Zwolle for free, just 7 minutes on foot from the IJsselhallen
TIMETABLES AND TICKETS
The International Ice Sculpture Festival is open every day, from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10.00 to 17.30. Closed on Mondays, 31 December 2017 and 01 January 2018.
The whole ticket costs 14,50 €, from 11 to 64 years. Children aged 4 and 10 years, pay 10,00 €.
Free for children up to 4 years old. An additional fee of € 2.00 is provided for each ticket purchased directly on the spot.
Consider the temperatures, it is advisable to dress with clothes suited to the occasion. Heavy clothes, double socks, gloves, a scarf and a woolen hat: here is the best visitor to the wonderful International Ice Sculpture Festival in Zwolle.
