HOW TO GET

Viareggio Carnival

You can reach the city easily, by plane, landing at Pisa airport. Every day, bus connections are guaranteed with the city, with the E25 ViaBus extra-urban line. Alternatively, you can rent a car directly at the airport, and reach Viareggio. More info, from here.

The city is also served by a convenient, efficient road network. You can arrive by car, from all directions.

WHAT TO DO AND SEE

Papier-mâché giants parade along the catwalk every year. THE Masked courses they represent one of the most anticipated and spectacular events of the Viareggio Carnival. All made by skilled master craftsmen, tall over 20 meters, to amaze all visitors.
After the triple shot of cannon, you will see parading majestic, and spectacular, allegorical floats, between music and dancing. At the end of the Masked Opening and closing Courses, there will be a fantastic fireworks display.
To access, you will need to purchase a special one ticket. The ticket for one from the specific 5 dates, costs 19.26 € at full price, and 13.60 € reduced under 14; the open ticket, for a day of your choice, costs 22.66 € per person. The ticket in the numbered tribune, for one of the established 5 dates, costs 36.26 € per person, and offers access to the event and numbered seating.

Le Local festivals, instead, they represent the essence of popular tradition. During certain weekends, whole neighborhoods offer visitors a lot of entertainment including dancing, singing, music, and an interesting gastronomic offer.
Fun also with the three Great Veglions. Big parties organized, in only three dates, in the most prestigious historical rooms of Viareggio and in the most popular clubs. To run wild until night.

From February to March, guided tours of the Museo and Cartapesta laboratories are organized in the Cittadella del Carnevale. To participate, the ticket costs 4.00 € per person.

Saturday 09 February, at 16: 00, Masked Course.
Friday 15 February, Festival at the Marco Polo District.
Saturday 16 February, from 19: 00, Festa to the Marco Polo District. From 20: 00, Veglione in maschera Hotel Palace, via Flavio Gioia 2.
Sunday 17 February, 15 hours: 00, Masked Course. From 19: 00, to the Marco Polo District, the last local festival.
Saturday 23 February, 17 hours: 00, Night Masked Course. At 21, Veglione in maschera Hotel Residence Espanade, in Piazza Puccini 18.
01 - 03 March, from the 19: 00, the Carnevaldarsena Festival.
Sunday 03 March, at 10: 00, parade of canoes and boats of various types, along the Burlamacca Canal. At 15: 00, Corso Mascherato.
Monday 04 / 03 e Tuesday 05 / 03, from the 19: 00, Festa Rionale Carnevaldarsena.
Tuesday 05 March great closing with Course Preview at 14: 50. Then follows the Masked Course at 16: 30 and, at the end, a great fireworks show.

Carnival of Viareggio

It is advisable to book well in advance, especially when staying during the weekend. Availability during the Carnival period of Viareggio is rather limited.
